For more intimate performances, check out the lineup at Matilda’s Under the Pines or The Velvet Note. Picnic and potlucks are encouraged at Matilda’s, where Americana music is played in an open, outdoor venue. Or you can grab a glass of wine and relax while taking in the jazzy sounds from locally recognized artists fill The Velvet Note’s cozy space. To catch some of the largest tours of the year, head to Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, where artists like Alanis Morissette, Kesha, and Dave Matthews Band are making appearances during the 2020 season.
Theatre buffs should catch a show featuring the ACT1 Theater Company. An all-volunteer, non-equity company located for 25+ years at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, ACT1 puts on four mainstage productions a season. The 2020 lineup of shows features Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act, and White Christmas the Musical.

When it comes to exploring the beautiful statues, sculptures and public art in this city, Alpharetta makes it easy. The Downtown Alpharetta Arts Walking Tour is the perfect guide through the city’s growing collection of public art. This self-guided tour will take you past beautiful statutes like “The Defenders,” a bronze statue meant to honor veterans and soldiers; “Modern Saxophone,” which celebrates the city’s musical heritage; and the “Ring Around the Rosie” installation, featuring a group of children frolicking around a 100-year-old elm tree near the Alpharetta Community Center.
If you’re looking for an immersive experience where you can delve deeper into the creative process, plan your visit to Alpharetta around one of the arts-centric festivals that take place in the city from May to September. Alpharetta Arts Streetfest, occurring May 23-24, is a two-day festival with free admission featuring more than 90 artists from across the US in an outdoor gallery setting, where visitors can meet the artists, learn about the inspiration behind their pieces, and even take home a special piece as a souvenir. Or stop by Brooke Street Park one Saturday a month from May to September to experience Alpharetta Art in Brooke Street Park, where you can find local artists creating masterpieces right before your eyes!

After enjoying the beautiful works and performances from the pros, try your hand at a creation of your own! There are plenty of studios throughout Alpharetta offering art classes in mediums from canvas to ceramics. All Fired Up gives you the chance to create your own piece out of clay, which you can then paint once it’s been fired. Or paint a pre-made piece for a relaxing afternoon activity. At Painting With a Twist, visitors receive precise instructions on creating a masterpiece with their own personal flair. These classes are great for groups who want to learn a few artistic tricks over a glass or two of vino! Or you can head to The Treehouse at Sis & Moon’s where you can reserve the studio for a private art party or sign up for the Canvas + Cocktails classes. In the back of the Treehouse you’ll find studios of local artists whose artwork is sold in Sis & Moon’s storefront.
