The early history of rodeos dates to the conquistadors of the 1500’s, where Spanish ranchers and their Mexican ranch hands started to turn raising cattle into the modern phenomenon that the rodeo is today.

From May 5 – 7, 2022, the NCPRA 2021 – 2022 Rodeo Finals will be taking place at the Wills Park Equestrian Center, giving you the perfect opportunity to have a hootin’ and hollerin’ good time while appreciating a sport that truly stems from a Mexican culture and tradition. Enjoy all of the classic fun of a rodeo when you watch cowboys and cowgirls compete in Bareback Bronc Riding, Break-Away Roping, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Cowgirl’s Barrel Racing, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling and Team Roping.
Horsin’ Around Alpharetta Doesn’t Stop There
Compared to the rodeo, it may be a horse of a different color, but it is undeniable that the Kentucky Derby is an event worth getting excited for, especially if you enjoy horses. Taking place on May 7th, many Alpharetta locales are ready to celebrate the Louisville-based horse race. Watch parties for the final races are taking place across the city, encouraging attendees to don their best Derby attire. The Hamilton Alpharetta, Curio Collection by Hilton will host their Kentucky Derby Party from 3 – 8 PM in Carrie’s Courtyard, featuring the races, live music, best dressed prizes, cocktails created with the official Bourbon of The Kentucky Derby, Woodford Reserve, and Derby inspired pairings. Avalon invites guests to attend their Kentucky Derby Party to enjoy a Mint Julep or two on the Plaza from 4 – 8 PM in fancy hats, bowties and festive dresses. Roaring Social’s Derby Day Party from 4 – 8 PM will make the “Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” into a 4-hour affair featuring live music, live race coverage, contests, horse betting, bourbon tasting, and so much more! Live music is happening all weekend at venues across the city. Get your groove on at the Town Green on May 6 from 6 – 10 PM with the Alpharetta City Center Concert Series Featuring Dock Rock Radio, enjoy Live Music with Nicole Alexis on the Rooftop Terrace at Fairway Social from 7 – 10 PM, or awe your friends at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre for the AJR – The OK Orchestra Tour from 7:30 – 11:30 PM. Carrying on the tunes into Saturday, May 6, enjoy Live Music with Wes Vansant on the Rooftop Terrace at Fairway Social, from 7 – 10 PM, Michelle Malone from 8 – 10 PM at Matildas Music Under the Pines.
