Rest Haven Cemetery is one of Alpharetta’s most historic landmarks, a 6.5‑acre burial ground dating back to the 1860s and home to many of the city’s pioneering families, including the Mannings, Skeltons, and Teasleys. It also includes the grave of physician and first postmaster Oliver Perry Skelton and descendants tied to Alpharetta’s oldest surviving home.
Originally privately owned, Rest Haven came under city care in the 1970s through an informal transfer that addressed years of inconsistent maintenance and incomplete records. Today, as one of Georgia’s few municipally managed cemeteries, it benefits from dedicated preservation funding and stands as a meaningful place of remembrance that honors the stories and legacies that shaped Alpharetta.
