Top 5 Alpharetta Hot Spots For BBQ

In Food + Drink

We are always on the hunt for the best of Alpharetta dining spots, it is a tough job, but someone has to do it! This time we’ve stoked the coals, sampled the sauces, done the “research”, got Mama’s approval and we are proud to report back some of the best places in Alpharetta to get your ‘que on! But fair warning, this list is sure to make your mouth water!

1) King Barbecue

Shaun Doty and Lance Gunmere teamed up with Pit Master Carey Wise (Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q & Grand Champion BBQ) to serve up some Georgia-style barbecue – meaning a blend of all the best BBQ styles from all over the country. Menu highlights include pulled pork, brisket, sausage, turkey, chicken and ribs. One of their many secrets is grilling over pecan and oak wood to not overpower the flavor of the meat. But let’s not forget about the sides: savory baked potato salad, creamy mac & cheese, baked beans, collard greens and jalapeno corn bread with a kick. The perfect pairing to complement your BBQ plate are the Top Shelf Slushies in a variety of flavors from Fuzzy Navel to Cheerwine & George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey.

2) Smokejack BBQ

An Alpharetta staple since 2004, Smokejack BBQ has been described as a “shrine to meat.” There’s no rushing the process here as they smoke their delicacies for 12 hours – low and slow. Leading off with the appetizer menu, you know these guys aren’t messing around with an offering of nachos topped with a choice of BBQ chicken, pulled pork or brisket. The main menu has a selection of pork, sausage, beef brisket, smoked turkey, chicken, baby back ribs and spare ribs. But the signature attraction is their burnt ends. Little cubes of pure gold goodness, burnt ends are brisket pieces smoked overnight, cubed, wood grill charred and sautéed in Smokejack’s KC sauce. Run, don’t walk, to get your hands on ‘em! If you somehow managed to save room for dessert, the banana pudding and Coca-Cola cake are worth every little succulent southern calorie.
