The first holiday weekend of 2021 is just around the corner in January and offers the perfect opportunity for an extended weekend getaway to Alpharetta. With activities from ice skating to cooking classes to taking in some art, Alpharetta offers up plenty of fun to fill the long weekend and kick off a new year!
Here are some of the events we’re most excited about between January 15-18, 2021 in Alpharetta:
Skate into the New Year
Avalon continues its icy thrills at Avalon On Ice through January 18. The Rockefeller-inspired outdoor ice rink is a thrilling way to get exercise while also making new memories worth cherishing as you glide across the ice with your loved ones. Skates can be rented for children and adults, so lace them up and you’ll be on your way to a twirlin’ and swirlin’ good time. Ticket admission is required.
Paint Your Way into the New Year
If you want to try out your own art skills, sign up for a class at Painting With A Twist! This creative outlet is offering three different classes over the extended weekend to brush up on your painting skills. Attend a date night class on Friday, January 15 to paint Twilight Love Trees, or attend the Saturday, January 16 session to paint a gorgeous Celestial Moon or catch the Sunday, January 17 class to paint two Love Birds. No matter which day you choose, you’ll be led by a knowledgeable instructor who can show you all of the tips and tricks to paint a masterful work of art!
Cook Up Some Fun
Whether you are a chef at heart or have yet to find your cooking niche, you’ll have a blast at the Publix Aprons Cooking School where you can learn how to whip up a spectacular meal. For a date night filled with soul-warming dishes like fried chicken and pimento cheese, check out the Couples Cooking Southern Comfort experience on January 15 – y’all won’t leave hungry! To try something new and dough-licious, try the Hot Hand Pies workshop on January 16 where you will learn how to make empanada dough, pie dough and a variety of hand pies. For a delectable dining event while you observe how the chefs cook up the quintessential chophouse meal, check out the American Steakhouses experience on January 16. Or round out your long weekend with Couples Cooking: Seafood & Pasta on January 18 if you’re a fan of lobster ravioli or shrimp and scallops tossed with linguine. No matter which cooking school workshop you opt for, you’ll leave with new epicurean knowledge and a full belly! Make sure to register in advance to save your spot.
Appreciate the Arts
If you have an eye for unique art, be sure to make time to check out the Norman Wagner exhibit at the Alpharetta Arts Center. The exhibit, running through January 22, features experimental pieces focusing on nature, and not adhering to any particular mode of expression. Wagner, known for building the printmaking program and department at Atlanta College of Art, is a delightful character, and his pieces are absolute treasures. Free admission to the exhibit.
