Get Away To Alpharetta for Independence Day

In Events & Entertainment
4th of July celebration

Families decked in patriotic Red, White and Blue attire, the smell of succulent barbecue on the grill, savoring snow cones in the park, sparklers twinkling at dusk, the subtle romance of watching fireworks with your sweetie—these are a few of our favorite things we look forward to every Fourth of July. Alpharetta is home to an array of excellent activities to make your Independence Day weekend a hit. Exercise your independence by choosing between any (or all) of these fun, fantastic festivities.

Red, White & Booms

A hush falls over the crowd as children twirl sparklers in anticipation of an American tradition like no other. Celebrate our great nation with Alpharetta’s 4th of July Fireworks at Wills Park on Sunday, July 4. Once dusk falls, fireworks fly upwards to fill the sky with blazes of red, zaps of blue, punches of pinks, and cool designs that light up starstruck eyes. While this year’s event will not feature any of the additional activities leading up to the fireworks as it has in the past, you will be able to view the fireworks from multiple places throughout the city. Whether you’re holding hands with your honey as the fireworks fly or entertaining the young ones, you’ll be thrilled you made time for the show.

Enjoy America’s Sport in Style

Did you know that baseball has been the National Sport of the U.S. for 77 years? On Thursday, July 1 from 6 – 10 p.m., make your way to Avalon for Braves on the Boulevard where you can cheer for the Atlanta Braves in the Avalon Plaza with friends and family. This live watch party features the game on a jumbo screen, brews and cocktails at the event bar and bites from any of your favorite Avalon eateries. Bring blankets or tailgate chairs and choose your spot on the green. While this event is open to the public, space is first-come, first-served so arrive early to stake out your seat. Wear your red, white and blue and root, root, root for the home team!

Freedom To Dance Like No One Is Watching

If you need a little more Avalon in your life after an awesome Braves game, head back over to The Plaza on Friday, July 2 from 6-8 p.m. for Avalon Nights Live, where you can jam to live music and dance the night away with friends and family. While you aren’t required to purchase tickets, we recommend arriving early and bring a blanket or tailgate chairs to claim your space on the green. Purchase beverages from the event bar or grab a bite from any of Avalon’s more than 25 restaurants.

Live Music Under The Stars

Reserve a table for the group, pack a picnic dinner, and get ready to experience the fabulously funky Southern charm of Matilda’s Music Under the Pines. This open-air venue is nestled under the stars and gives live music a magical home for shows on Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3. On July 2, Smoky Jones and the 3 Dollar Pistols will take the stage from 8-10 p.m. to bring real country and honkytonk sounds to the stage. Featuring songs from all of the greats like Hank, Dwight, George, Buck, Merle, and more, this show will make any country lover croon. On July 3, jam out with Jason Lee Wilson from 8-10 p.m. for mid-century country soul music and western ballads. Whichever night you choose, be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time!

Pack Your Picnic Basket With Fresh Finds

You’ll find everything you need to create the perfect Fourth of July feast at the Alpharetta Farmers Market on Saturday, July 3 from 8 a.m. – Noon. Did you know that peach season is at its peak during Georgia’s summer months? There’s nothing more American than a peach cobbler a la mode made with juicy Georgia peaches on a warm, sunny Fourth of July. Find prime peaches, succulent strawberries, fresh florals, buttery baked goods, lovable lattes, jammin’ jellies and much, much more.

Celebrate The Arts

To see nationally recognized metal sculptures created by a local Georgian, look no further than the Alpharetta Arts Center where the Michael Dillon Exhibit is open to the public. The exhibit includes several of Dillon’s sculptures, examples of his intricate railings, maquettes from previous works featuring hands-on interactivity, and images to detail the story of his production process.
