While we get ample attention for our shopping and dining options, something to note about Alpharetta is the live music scene. Spring and summer in our OTP slice of heaven signify an abundance of musical entertainment! From raucous beachy cover bands to soulful country crooners, djembe-driven beats to otherworldly funk, Alpharetta is your go-to for live music in cool venues. Check out a few of our picks for can’t-miss concert experiences coming to town:
The Velvet Note – The Corcoran Holt Quintet, April 26th and 27th
High-quality New York jazz meets melodically infectious compositions in the case of this quintet led by renown bassist and djembe player Corcoran Holt. Lauded by DownBeat magazine as a reflection “of the deep awareness of why people listen to music,” The Corcoran Holt Quintet ensure elite musicianship ideal for any intimate date night out at the Velvet Note.
Avalon Nights Live – Grains of Sand Band, April 26th
A three-piece horn section, seven members, and seriously entertaining vocals are the bread and butter of this Athens, GA, beach/soul/Motown band. Come for the ‘50s through ‘90s classics that you know and love, stay for the invigorating instrumentation and vibrant appeal of a band that truly loves performing. From the first note to the last lines, the Grains of Sand Band will remind you why listening to live music is the very best way to spend a gorgeous Friday evening.
Matilda’s – Farewell Angelina, May 3rd
Named for Bob Dylan’s haunting song, Farewell Angelina bids adieu to the average country band with an all-female homage to heart-racing harmonies, blazing double violins, and soaring guitar licks. Bandmembers Nicole Witt, Andrea Young, Lisa Torres, and Lauren Lucas pack each powerhouse performance with wickedly smart lyrics set to dynamic, foot-stomping melodies. This is Deep South girl power even the guys will love.
Chukkar Farm – The Young Fables and Liz Longley, May 31st
As one of the most beloved musical experiences in the OTP, Home By Dark brings truly unique performances to the posh equestrian setting of Chukkar Farm. You bring the food, friends, and family, and Home By Dark will supply songs certain to change your life. Hailing from Maryville, TN, The Young Fables is comprised of modern-traditional country duo Laurel Wright (a three-time American Idol contestant) and gifted guitarist and vocalist Wesley Lunsford. The Young Fables are known for spinning their tails through stirring classic country/Americana. Liz Longley rounds out the evening with her bold take on lush, live-out-loud pop coupled with starkly personal lyrics.
Ameris Bank Amphitheatre – Florence + The Machine, June 6th
Best described as ethereally funky, Florence + The Machine hits Alpharetta like a kickdrum this summer. Featuring frontwoman Florence Welch’s introspective lyrics and wild vibrato, the show promises a musical journey filled with bright keyboard swells and poetic choruses you’ll be humming along long after the encore.
All summer long, Brooke Street Park delivers on sweet, soulful tunes with Home By Dark (yes, another opportunity for music to change your life!). Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 27th, for when Nashville-based Danny Mitchell (you may know him from being Miranda Lambert’s band member) brings his unique brand of Southern charm singer-songwriter magic to Alpharetta. Ernie Halter, another Nashville-based crooner, will join Mitchell on stage for melodic pop-soul tunes that channel the likes of the Beatles, Otis Redding, and Stevie Wonder.
