Vitamin D – commonly referred to as “the sunshine vitamin” – is a key player in keeping the body healthy (something that we’re all clamoring to do right now!). From immunity-boosting properties to bone-strengthening benefits and even the bonus of mood-brightening capabilities, Vitamin D is essential to our physical and mental well-being. Fortunately, in Alpharetta, there are a number of ways to soak up the sunshine vitamin that are as fun as they are good for you! Pretty al fresco porches, picnic spots galore, and all kinds of outdoor events are your ticket to getting a daily dose of sunshine goodness.
Here are some of our favorite ways to get that much-needed Vitamin D in Alpharetta:
As autumn brings along cooler weather, restaurant patios and outside porches are poppin’ in Alpharetta. You’ll find over 250 eateries to choose from, many of which boast cozy outside seating perfect for dragging your lunch out a little longer. Explore the creative seasonal menu featuring lovely local ingredients at True Food Kitchen while dining on their patio. Indulge in an ultra-authentic slice of Neapolitan pizza with a gorgeous Chianti on the open-air court at Campania Pizzeria Napoletana. Treat yourself to a tart, refreshing marg and the downright addictive, scratch made Queso Gringo outside at Pure Taqueria. Pull up a chair out front at Never Enough Thyme to watch the world go by on Main Street as you enjoy a Triple Berry Salad topped with their practically famous chicken salad or a soul-warming bowl of mushroom soup. Whatever the foodie in you is in search of, you’ll find it along with ample ambiance at these and more al fresco dining options throughout our charming, culinary corner of the world.
Pack a Picnic
There are few things in life as cozy and memorable (ahem, also Insta-worthy!) as a picnic in the sweet sunshine. Grab your blanket and a basket (you can fill it up with a take-out order from any of the aforementioned restaurants), and head to one of Alpharetta’s pristine parks for a socially-distanced outdoor dining experience entirely of your own design! Check out one of three picnic pavilions at Webb Bridge Park, sprawl out on the expansive green space at Wills Park, or experience the serenity of nature at the new Windward Community Park. As an added bonus, after you’ve dined in the sunshine, you can take a leisurely stroll with the family to keep taking in the sights while getting in your steps!
Getting your blood pumping in the great outdoors to the tune of fall’s cooler weather is the reset button we’ve been longing to press. Discover Alpharetta’s incredible fresh air fitness options—cycle 8-miles of paved perfection at the Big Creek Greenway or get your ohm on with free yoga classes at the pavilion behind the Alpharetta Community Center. For a special sweat session, be sure to check out an entire morning of endorphin-flowing action with Run-SUP-Yoga at the Wills Park Pool on August 23rd from 8:30 am – 11:30 am. You’ll start with cardio, transition to core stability with stand-up paddle boarding, then stretch it all out with an hour-long yoga flow. Be sure to register ahead of time to save your spot (registration fee is also required)! Come sweat (from a six-foot distance!) outside at Brooke Street Park’s pavilion (behind City Hall). Free Barre classes are offered every Saturday and BarRestore (Barre+ Yoga) every 2nd and 4th Thursday from now until September! No registration is required to attend – just bring a mat, friend, and water!
Leisure just looks better in the sunlight! Sun-soaked Saturdays are best spent at the Alpharetta Farmers Market. Here, you’ll discover the wonder of locally made jams, artisanal breads, and all-natural meats plus tons of handcrafted trinkets and treasures. The farmers market is offered every Saturday through the end of October from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. If you’re searching for a little artistic inspiration, be sure to clear your schedule for Saturday, August 29, and Saturday, September 26, for Alpharetta Art in Brooke Street Park. Held at Brooke Street Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this is an all-day expression of creative wonder from local artists and makers demonstrating incredible works in oil painting, pottery, photography, watercolor and so much more. As evening approaches, keep the outside vibes strong with live music at Matilda’s Music Under The Pines or side-splitting comedic performances courtesy of Punchline Comedy Nights at Avalon on September 14, September 28, October 12, and October 26.
