Live Discussion with Ngor Lur Mayol – Former Lost Boy of Sudan

Join Mike Buchanan and Ngor Kur Mayol as they discuss Mayol’s journey and inspiring story of survival and perseverance as a former Lost Boy Of Sudan.
Discussion to be held on February 10 at 7 PM in the Community Room inside Alpharetta’s City Hall at 2 Park Plaza, Alpharetta, GA 30005.

Ngor Kur Mayol, came to the U.S in 2001 from a refugee camp in Kenya after Sudanese forces began attacking his home and the surrounding villages in South Sudan. Five years later, after the end of the second civil war in his home country, he was able to return home where he noticed an immediate need to create and begin partnering with other non-profits that have helped make primary education more accessible in South Sudan. There, it is estimated that only 2% of boys and 1% of girls graduate from primary school, and 90% of adults cannot read or write. In 2013, their efforts opened the doors on the first model, permanent, primary school in South Sudan where as many as 400 students attend the school, ranging from ages 5 to 20, in grades 1 through 5.
