Harry Potter Day

In conjunction with the Illustrators exhibit, From the Artist Studio, Mark Braught, Laura Freeman, and C. F. Payne, join us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Warner Brothers release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with original art by illustrator, Mark Braught – the creator of marketing imagery for the release of this first film. Events will include art activities for children and teens and an Artist’s Talk, where Mark will share details about his work designing imagery for this movie release and merchandise, along with his process and experiences.
Come to the Alpharetta Arts Center in your favorite Harry Potter costume and get ready to make some magic art and cast some spells! A fun-filled afternoon of activities for the whole family.

12:30 – 3:30 TEEN ILLUSTRATION CLASS
Participants ages 10-15 will learn pen & ink materials and techniques, gain more confidence in your lines, and how to accomplish shading in this permanent medium using different brushstrokes, cross-hatching, and blending effects.

1:30 – 3:30pm HARRY POTTER DAY: KIDS ROTATING ART ACTIVITIES
Kids ages 4-13 will participate in 3 rotating art activities within the Alpharetta Arts Center
• Making a magical glow in the dark wand
• Sculpting a pinch pot owl from air drying clay
• Quick sketching around the gallery while looking at famous illustrators including the illustrations of Mark Braught – the creator of marketing imagery for the release of this first film.

4:00 – 5:30pm ARTIST’S TALK by MARK BRAUGHT a free event
Illustrator, Mark Braught, the creator of marketing imagery for the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and many other major illustrations, will share his details about the work for Warner Brothers, designing imagery for the movie release and merchandise, and his creative processes and experiences.

VIRTUAL CLASS: INTRO TO CHARACTER ILLUSTRATION
Participants age 14+ will learn the basic foundation of making and building their own characters.
