            <description>Returning to Alpharetta for the third consecutive year is the Scott Rigsby Foundation’s 2012 Alliance Ride and Epic Handcycling Road Race sponsored by Jackson Healthcare. The event begins Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 a.m. at Jackson Healthcare’s corporate headquarters, 2655 Northwinds Parkway in Alpharetta. All proceeds support wounded warriors from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and will be used for the Georgia Warrior Alliance Wounded Warrior Family Retreat program. The race will start with an aerial display performed by the U.S. Army Silver Wings Team from Ft. Benning.</description>

            <title>Alpharetta Historical Society Presents Nathaniel Greene</title>
            <description>The Alpharetta Historical Society’s February program will be led by Jack Ferguson. Dedicated to making sure history will never be forgotten, Jack will be speaking on Nathaniel Greene: Military Genius of the Revolutionary War. Born and raised in Atlanta, Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He became interested in genealogy while preparing for a family reunion and later joined the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and several other historical and heritage societies. In an effort to teach children about the importance of history and keep it interesting, Jack also makes historical presentations to school classrooms. Jack lives with wife, Louisa Carter, whom he married in 1947 and together they have three daughters, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. The couple has traveled over 150,000 miles participating in SAR activities to ensure that history will never be forgotten.</description>

            <title>Alpharetta’s Big Creek Greenway Extension Complete</title>
            <description>The newest section of the Big Creek Greenway from Webb Bridge Road north to Marconi Drive was officially opened for walking, jogging, biking and skating at a ribbon cutting ceremony held on June 13, 2011. The extension project, which began in May of 2010, was substantially complete by May of this year and includes a 121’ bridge over Big Creek and a small parking facility off Marconi Drive. This adds .85 miles to the Alpharetta section of the Greenway, bringing its total length to approximately 8 miles.</description>
