Alpharetta Tree Lighting Ceremony

Tree Lighting Celebration
December 5, 2010
5:00 PM

Historic Downtown Alpharetta
Milton Square City Park
Alpharetta, GA

All the magic of Christmas glistens at the annual lighting of the 45’ live spruce tree with 10,000 white lights!  Creating special memories for area families for over 30 years, the celebration will include live music by local artist James Casto, dance performances by the City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department Rhythm n’ Shoes Dance Program, a choral presentation by the Alpharetta Christian Academy Children’s Chorus and a reading of the Christmas classic, Twas the Night Before Christmas, from Mayor Arthur Letchas and his wife Sally

In addition to the night’s entertainment, elves will be wandering the crowds creating free balloon sculptures and other crafts while Milton High School’s Interact Club will offer free face painting.  Starbucks will warm the evening with complimentary hot chocolate and coffee drinks. Smokejack, A Southern Grill will be available for dinner fare. Philly Pretzel Factory will be providing assorted savory and sweet pretzel creations with fifty percent of the proceeds from the evening donated to Toys for Tots!

Before or after the lighting, come out of the cold and experience an old-fashioned Christmas in a Log Cabin designed to showcase life during the late 1800s. A roaring fire will provide an inviting backdrop as guides share with children what Christmas was like during a bygone area while enjoying hot apple cider and cookies. Join in a game of checkers and listen as historical experts tell the stories of yesteryear. Delight in a tree decorated with ornaments made by school children.

Be sure to stick around directly after the tree lighting to see Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on a City of Alpharetta fire truck, which has been a local tradition since the first event thirty-two years ago. The Christmas Tree Lighting will offer the opportunity for children to talk with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the park gazebo. A North Fulton Jaycee’s volunteer will be on hand to help take FREE online photos, or parents may bring their cameras to take photos.

Don’t miss this opportunity to join in a heart-warming celebration of history and the holidays.
