Fall has quickly left us, and in its wake a chill has settled upon Alpharetta that can only mean one thing: it’s time to start prepping for our annual visit from St. Nick. During this time of year, I always find my heart is lighter and my brain starts working in overdrive on thoughtful gifts to buy for my family and friends. Truthfully, one of my favorite things is to curate specialty gifts for the ones close to me. Perhaps that means that gift-giving is one of my love languages, but nothing is more rewarding than seeing someone you love open up a gift you’ve spent hours tracking down, or assembling. To see the smile spread across their lips as they realize you’ve been paying attention to who they are as a person, is one of the best feelings in the world.
That’s possibly why I love shopping locally for all my gifts. Sure, I could pop by a Target and load up on delicious smelling candles, cozy scarves, or a whole host of stocking stuffers from the dollar section, but nothing excites me more than the hunt for the perfect gift and Alpharetta’s downtown provides the perfect collection for all my shopping needs.
We all have that friend (or relative) who has the best jewelry collection. She’s your go-to for just the right accessory when you need it, so she deserves to get something she hasn’t received before (that possibly you could borrow in the future too). For unique jewelry, I always head to Sis & Moon’s on Milton Avenue. This store is stuffed to the brim with jewelry from local artists. You’ll find in-style necklaces, classic spoon rings and other bits and bobs popping out from every nook and cranny in this eclectic store.
So, here’s the thing: there is a running joke about “The Christmas Candle” that constantly gets repurposed every year as the-gift-that-nobody-wants, but I thoroughly enjoy getting candles as gifts. It’s a gift that keeps on giving, and I’ll be sure to think of you every time I go to light it and let my house fill with the scent you bought me. For the best collection of delicious smelling candles pop into White Dog Décor on Milton Avenue and take a sniff of their impressive collection from Ella B. Candles. The great thing about these candles is that each one is crafted from a city or a place. For sentimental value, you could get an Alpharetta scented candle to commemorate a special moment you shared with someone.
For the “artist” and the “art collector,” be sure to visit Chic Evolution in Art for a one-of-a-kind piece, or take a stroll through the Treehouse at Sis & Moon’s where a working artist’s studio awaits with new pieces from local artists.
I have quite a few friends who are “nesting” and settled into their homes across Atlanta, so I love picking up a pretty piece here and there for them to decorate their homes with. For the home décor lover, I like stopping in La Bella Maison for any sort of pretty wall signage, unique tea towels or cookbooks. They even have a lovely collection of Christmas ornaments that would be perfect for that holiday ornament exchange you have coming up.
